Coaches....
Pick up the phone and HELP someone!
Today I saw a Facebook post from someone I know. Not well, but in an industry I know extremely well and coach many business owners in. His post was only 5 words of clear anguish but it was clear he needed help. Serious help. It was lucky too that I saw the post because a client assessment got cancelled unexpectedly due to a mixup with the time changes (US changed clocks whereas UK hadn’t), so I suddenly found myself with 2 hours to kill.
Anyway we don’t know each other well but I called him immediately. Spent about an hour on two calls in quick succession with him actually to find out what was going on and how I could help.
I gave a bunch of advice and strategies which I am hopeful he will take and implement - in fact I know he did because he has a previous client coming in tomorrow now when before he had no one booked in.
Maybe I’ll talk about the hints and tips I gave in another post, but most importantly I want to get across to the business coaches and consultant amongst you - read between the lines. Watch out for your clients. They may need more help than you realise. I mean Serious serious help.
Like the “if I don’t make $1000 TO-FRIKKIN-DAY, I am going to be sleeping under a bridge somewhere” kind of help.
That’s the situation this guy is in right now.
And the sad thing is that there are many others in his situation or close to it out there.
In his case he posted about it on Facebook so it was obvious.
But many people suffer in silence until it’s too late. They won’t be posting. You’ll never know until you find out months or years later that they went bust.
Constant outreach/follow up to your customer base is not optional. The minute you decided to call yourself a business coach, it became your duty.
Pick up the phone and help someone.
Now if you are a business that needs help - don’t wait until you are on your last dollar to post a cry for help. Do it WAAAAY sooner.
I really hope things turn around for the fella. I believe in him. Just needs to pick up the phone and help his client base now.
